Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom Mr Lindsay Hoyle sent a congratulatory message to President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Aleksa Bečić.
“The UK and Montenegro have a friendship dating back over 140 years, and the UK will continue to be a close partner though these challenging times Parliament lies at the heart of any democracy and the role of Speaker is key to its proper functioning. I and my Office would be pleased to share our experience, deeply embedded in our long and rich Parliamentary democratic traditions and continue our long-standing support for Montenegro's parliamentary and wider democratic development and reform”, the Speaker of the House of Commons said in his letter.
President Bečić, in his reply, expressed pleasure with the fact that Montenegro and the United Kingdom have maintained friendly relations since 1879, when the first diplomatic mission of the Great Britain was established in Cetinje
“The rich British parliamentary tradition is an example we should follow, and we are extremely grateful for the offer to further exchange experiences. We highly appreciate the cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the British Embassy in Podgorica, with the support of which the Parliamentary Budget Office was established.
We remain committed to further strengthening capacities of the Parliament, counting on future expert support from your country”, President Bečić stressed in his reply.
