President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović hosted a delegation of the European Parliament, headed by its Chairman Mr David Martin, which is staying in Montenegro for participation in the Fourteenth meeting of the European Union - Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC)

President Brajović stressed that the Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee was the most important cooperation mechanism between the Parliament of Montenegro and the European Parliament, expressing satisfaction at the opportunity to reconsider the progress which Montenegro has made in the integration process since the previous meeting held in June of this year in Strasbourg.

Emphasising that Montenegro’s membership of the EU was an interest of the EP as well, Mr David Martin said that Montenegro was the country closest to membership in the European community of nations. He also said that countries should be judged according to their individual progress, that is, he voiced his support the regatta principle.

The meeting also discussed:  the activities on the implementation of the OSCE recommendations, the return of a larger part of the opposition to the Parliament, the situation on the media scene in Montenegro, the trial related to the attempted terrorist attack, and the upcoming local elections.
